London: Both the lawyers of Katy Perry and Russell Brand will have to work out an amicable divorce settlement, as the couple did not have a pre-nuptial agreement.
Brand confirmed on Friday that their 14-month marriage was over.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” the Mirror quoted his statement.
When Perry and Brand tied the knot in India in October 2009, they did so contract-free, as the Comedian felt that he was “trying to preserve and make it a beautiful thing”.
“I’m trying to preserve and make it a beautiful thing,” Brand had explained.
“Really, love between two people is the most spectacular and ordinary thing in the world. I want to make our wedding just about me and her... I ain’t doing no prenup,” he had said.
In the divorce document that he had filed, Brand ticked the box for ‘Property rights to be determined,’ which also suggests the pair did not have a pre-nuptial agreement.
They reportedly have at least three properties together in California, New York and London.
