Kolkata: While inaugurating the 18th Kolkata International Film Festival here Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the event this year got recognition from the international film regulatory body, though it was recognised in 1997.
"The Kolkata International Film Festival is the second-oldest film festival in India. This year we have received recognition of the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association), Paris," Banerjee said during the ceremony and later reiterated the same on social networking site Facebook.
However, KIFF`s official website says it is already an accredited film festival of the FIAPF.
A film director closely associated with the festival said the KIFF got the FIAPF recognition in 1997.
"The festival was founded in 1995 and within a couple of years it got recognized by the FIAPF, which is in charge of regulating international film festivals," the director told IANS.
