New Delhi: At just Rs 251, exclusive of delivery charges, Freedom 251 is not only India's but also the world's cheapest smartphone.
Launched on February 17 with registrations following the next day, over 5 crore customers are said to have put in their names for India's cheapest phone.
And while there is no doubt that it is a very, very cheap smartphone, it is interesting to note that these very basic mobile accessories are costlier than Freedom 251.
Let us take a look at these basic mobile accessories that are costlier than the phone.
- 1GB Net Pack: Most monthly (28 days in most cases) net pack of 1GB (3G) comes for anything around Rs 255-297.
- Memory Card: Most 16GB Class 10 memory cards come for around Rs 400 or more though some are available for cheaper price these days due to discount.
- Headphone/Earphone: A branded earphone/headphone comes for anything above Rs 500 in showrooms.
- Power Bank: Power banks are the in-thing mobile accessory and a 2600 mAh power costs anything above Rs 350, costlier than Freedom 251.
- Mobile Battery: Batteries are the life of smartphones and a spare one, especially for smartphones, do not come for anything less than Rs 350-400 per piece.
- Mobile Back Cover: A simple back cover for mobile phone is easily priced at Rs 250 and above. It's hard to find one priced less than Freedom 251.
- Mobile Flip Cover: Mobile flip covers are the in-thing for mobiles, especially for ladies and young girls. And a stylish good one hardly comes for less than Rs 500, which is the price of two Freedom 251.
- Mobile Back Panel: They are hard to find and if found, they come for anything above Rs 500. Costlier the smartphone, costlier the back panel.
- Selfie Stick: The most popular mobile accessory among selfie lovers. While one can find a selfie stick for Rs 170 too, good ones don't come for anything less than Rs 250.
- Mobile Charger: A branded mobile charger starts from anywhere about Rs 350, costlier than Freedom 251 by about 100 rupees.
