Washington: Reese Witherspoon has said that she is "deeply embarrassed" for what she said to a police officer while he was arresting her and her husband during a traffic stop in Atlanta.
"Do you know my name?" she reportedly told the state trooper who stopped the couple.
According to the arrest report, she told the state trooper that he was about to find out who she was and that he will go on national news.
The 37-year-old actress released a statement on Sunday apologizing for her behaviour to police, which began when her husband Jim Toth was arrested early Friday for driving under the influence of alcohol, CBS News reported.
The Oscar winner said in the statement that she had one drink too many and she was deeply embarrassed about the things she said.
She asserted that it was a scary situation and she was frightened for her husband.
Witherspoon said that she was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his duty and has nothing but respect for the police, adding that she was very sorry for her behaviour.
She was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct after a state trooper said she wouldn`t stay in the car while her husband was given a field sobriety test.
