Mumbai: Indian cinema has evolved and its reach is huge, says Bipasha Basu adding that the people love to see Indian actors perform and cheer for them.
Starting her career with ‘Ajnabee’ in 2001, the 33-year-old has spent over a decade in filmdom and says that the industry has evolved in the last 11 years. "It`s (film industry) grown by leaps and bounds. When we travel (abroad), we see how people love to see us perform. They just hang out of their chairs, cheering us and shouting out our names. Reach of the Indian cinema is huge," Bipasha told reporters "The kind of films is also changing. The audiences are accepting newer films. The hero and scripts have changed and it`s evolving in its own way. But the basic remains the same, we all like to sing and dance," she added. With about 50 Hindi movie titles to her credit including some well-appreciated movies like ‘Raaz’, ‘Jism’, ‘Race’, ‘Corporate’ and ‘Lamha’, the model-turned-actress is looking for a place in Hollywood with her first film ‘Singularity’. A period drama set in the backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war, "Singularity" features her as Maratha warrior Taluja Naik. The first look of the film has been released, and unlike most actors who appear in cameos in foreign films, she seems to be having a meaty part in the movie, which also stars Josh Hartnett and Bollywood actor Abhay Deol. "Right after the IIFA awards, I fly down to London to shoot my last bit of `Singularity`. We have a winter release. I am very excited because Roland Joffe is a fabulous director and I have got a very strong role in the film. This is something which I have not done before in the Hindi films," said the actress who is participating in the 13th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards. The three-day event starts June 7 in Singapore. IANS
