New Delhi: Alstom T&D India Friday said it has been awarded a contract worth approximately euro 16 million (Rs 108.8 crore) by Powergrid Corporation of India (PowerGrid) to supply auto transformers.
"Alstom T&D India has been awarded a contract...By Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (PowerGrid) to supply ten 765 kV 500 MVA 1-ph auto transformers," the company said in a statement.
These will be installed at two locations, the 765kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) situated at Vemagiri, Andhra Pradesh and 765kV Air Insulated substation (AIS) at Vindhyachal, Uttar Pradesh, it said.
All the equipment will be manufactured at Alstom T&D India's facility at Vadodara, it added.
"In India, Alstom is the market leader in the transmission segment for the last seven years in a row. The company has also achieved the remarkable feat of being the only Indian company to have over four years' experience in manufacturing of 765 kV transformers and reactors with localised technology," Alstom T&D India MD Rathin Basu said.
The transformers located at Vindhyachal will help transmit power from the surplus energy in the northern region to southern region. In addition, the transformers installed at Vemagiri will strengthen the transmission system of the southern grid, it added.
