New Delhi: Voicing his opinion against prohibition and beef ban in the country, Adi Godrej, chairman of the Godrej Group has said that these government policies hurt the economy.
Talking to the Indian Express, Godrej said that these policies are affecting growth.
Asserting his views on beef ban Godrej told Indian Express that it is “clearly affecting agriculture, affecting rural growth. Because what do you do with all these extra cows? It is also affecting business, because this was a good source of income for many farmers. So that’s a negative”.
Stating that India will remain the fastest growing economy in the world, Godrej further criticised prohibition or alchohol ban in states like Bihar and Kerala.
“Prohibition is bad for the economy. It’s bad for social structure, for drinking doesn’t reduce. It gives rise to bad liquor, and then mafia,” he told the Indian Express.
As per a recent report, the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a record growth in liquor sale following prohibition in neighbouring Bihar
The Bharauli area of the district, which is on Bihar border, has witnessed steep rise in sale of English liquor by 312 percent, 25 percent rise in beer and 4 percent rise in country liquor, he said.
The state government has also increased the revenue target for the district this fiscal from Rs 127 crore to Rs 139.6 crore.
