London: Former So Solid Crew performer MC Harvey has denied having a romance with Cheryl Cole.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Harvey had claimed to have had a relationship with the Girls Aloud singer.
Now the 32-year-old former non-League footballer has spoken out in a new interview to set the record straight once and for all.
Speaking to Heat magazine, Harvey says he and Cole merely confided in each other after both going through ‘tough things’.
He denied ever saying they’d had a physical relationship, and revealed that although he would have liked things to progress, the two were just friends, the Daily Mail reported.
Asked if they’d ever had sex, Harvey said: “No, we did not. And I never claimed to. We’re people who have both been through tough things.
“Does that make it a loving relationship, because you’re confiding in someone? No,” he insisted.
Later he backed up his argument by asking the magazine: “Why I am going to sit there and make up lies about sleeping with someone when I’m in a relationship? That is disrespectful to my girlfriend.”
But he did admit to being attracted to the singer and that he’d hoped their friendship went further.
“I’d be a fool to say I wasn’t attracted to her. She’s a beautiful girl – you’d be a fool to say ‘I was just doing it for friendship. Obviously I would have liked it to go somewhere, but it didn’t,’” he said.
Harvey and Cole become embroiled in an argument on Twitter after his original interview went out at the end of January.
The interview, published in Now Magazine, claimed Harvey said he’d had a secret romance with Cole in late 2010 - during her last series of ‘The X Factor’.
He said their relationship took place around the same time Cole was linked to American dancer Derek Hough.
He apparently told the magazine: “There was a relationship and an attraction to each other’s aura... She’s a good girl. We’ve got a great respect for each other.”
