Currently, women account for about 12 percent of Canon India's headcount of about 1,000 people.

"Canon in India is making dedicated efforts to boost women employees, nurture them and help them grow within the system," the Japanese tech giant said in a statement.

Canon has offices and warehouses in 14 cities across the country and has over 1,000 employees.

"At present, we have 12 percent women employees contributing to the vision of Canon India. But we surely want to take this number to at least 20 per cent over the next two years," Canon India President and CEO Kazutada Kobayashi said.

The company is undertaking a number of initiatives to keep women employees engaged and evolve through various company activities, he added.
