Los Angeles: A man accused of stealing Hollywood star John Travolta`s vintage Mercedes-Benz has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years behind bars. The ‘Grease’ actor parked his 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 Sl convertible near a Jaguar dealership in Santa Monica, California last September, only to discover it missing upon his return.
The car had been dismantled by the time police recovered it in December last year and they later arrested two men, DL Rayford, Jr and Michael T Green, in connection with the case, a leading daily has said.
Green was ordered to serve 14 years in jail for his role in the crime, in addition to owning and operating a California chop shop, where stolen vehicles are disassembled and the parts are sold. Green confessed to stealing more than 30 classic cars since 2010. Green`s accomplice, Rayford, Jr, pleaded no contest to grand theft auto in January and he was sentence to serve 16-months behind bars. He was also ordered to pay Travolta USD 50,000 in restitution.
