Melbourne: Lindsay Lohan, who plays Elizabeth Taylor in the new flick ‘Liz and Dick,’ opened up about why so many celebrities – including herself and the legendary actress - seem unable to avoid a life of excess.
“There are things you experience when you reach a certain level of fame, and people are willing to do whatever you ask them to do,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.
“I think excess comes from that; a lot of people are afraid to say no to you. If you don’t have the right people around you, you’re never going to learn when to stop. I was there at one point.
“I didn’t know what else to do and I didn’t take the time to listen enough. I’ve learnt a lot, and I’m lucky, but that’s not to say I’m a saint now, either,” she said.
The role appealed to Lohan because of her affinity with the movie legend.
“Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t afraid to be a woman and she was strong willed,” she said.
“She wasn’t afraid to be herself, she went through a lot and I can say the same for myself,” she added.
Both Lohan and Taylor were former child stars who eventually checked into the Betty Ford Center for drug and alcohol abuse.
The problem-plagued actors also have in common their share of turbulent and tabloid-worthy romances.
