Jabalpur, Oct 23: Congress and BSP have been holding secret parleys for an electoral alliance in Madhya Pradesh, going to polls on December one, a senior Congress leader said today. First round of talks between senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders and BSP supremo Mayawati were held at new Delhi recently, he told a news agency here. The possibility of an alliance between the two parties in Madhya Pradesh has increased after the BSP parted company with BJP, the leader said. Congress was considering an alliance with BSP, as the party wields considerable influence in some pockets of Vindhya, Madhya Bharat and Mahakoshal regions of Madhya Pradesh.
The alliance, which was yet to be approved by AICC president, will help congress edge out the BJP in nearly sixty seats of the total 230 in the state, leaders said.
Meanwhile, differences have surfaced amongst Congress leaders, with one section of the party not open to the idea of having an alliance even a secret one with the BSP. Bureau Report
