Mumbai: In a shocking incident, son of the late and renowned Punjabi writer Amrita Pritam, Navraj Kwatra was murdered. The incident happened in broad daylight inside his Borivli studio on Friday. Kwatra is believed to have lost his life at the hands of some unscrupulous elements of the society.
After preliminary investigations, the police said that the 65-year-old film producer-photographer might have either been strangled or smothered to death.
"Though Kwatra lived at Andheri, he used to often come to his studio in Wilderness Apartments in Borivli`s LIC Colony," said DCP Mahesh Patil.
According to reports, on Friday, Navraj Kwatra’s neighbours saw two young men visit him around 12.30 pm. Soon there was piercing shriek but people weren`t sure where it came from. Some people rushed to the upper floors of the building, but soon learnt that the screams were coming from Kwatra`s studio on the ground floor. Then after, they rushed downstairs and rang his doorbell but nobody answered.
Some residents then decided to look in from a rear window. As they moved to the rear part of the building, the two assailants got the chance to step out of the main entrance. A woman from the upper floor raised an alarm when she caught them leaving but nobody pursued the duo.
On entering Kwatra`s studio, the residents found him lying gagged and bound, and summoned the police. A gift-wrapped parcel was found lying in the studio, indicating that the assailants might have used it to enter the house. Police is still investigating the case.On entering Kwatra`s studio, the residents found him lying gagged and bound, and summoned the police.
