IMG-Reliance collaborates with Ministry of Textiles

Varanasi: IMG Reliance, which is a joint venture between Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and IMG Worldwide (IMG), has collaborated with the Minstry of Textiles to empower handloom weavers community in India.

The event management company signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the Ministry of Textiles` Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms in the presence of Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani here.

The MoU was signed on the National Handloom Day, which was on August 7.

As partner in holistic development and creation of sustainable fashion eco-system, IMG-Reliance will work on bridging the gap between fashion designers and weavers community by assigning reputed fashion designers to work with the Weavers` Service Centres at Nagpur, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata.

"Through the programme, we aim to also drive awareness about the importance of the handloom industry and apart from the skill development initiatives," Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President (Fashion) IMG Reliance, said in a statement. 

He said, "Each season at Lakme Fashion Week, we dedicate an entire day to Indian textiles and sustainable fashion and we will continue to endeavour to bringing these wonderful handloom stories to the national consciousness in the coming seasons as well."
