Panaji: Legendary Bollywood music arranger, Anthony Gonsalves, who ruled Bollywood’s golden era passed way at the Goa Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.
The 83 year old was restricted to a wheel chair for the past several months following pelvic bone fracture. The veteran succumbed to pneumonia and had his daughter Laxmi by his side when he breathed his last.
His son is expected to fly down to Goa for the last rites scheduled to take place on Sunday.
Gonsalves kept low key and chose to be away from limelight during his later years. His name rose to popularity when a song carrying his name from the film ‘Amar Albar Anthony’ became a super-hit.
Music composer Pyarelal had then dedicated the song to Gonsalves, who happened to be his violin teacher. During his career as a music arranger, Gonsalves worked in films like ‘Naya Daur’ and ‘Waqt’ to name a few. He was awarded the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2011.
Rest in peace Anthony Gonsalves.
