Mira Nair finds India distributor for `... Fundamentalist`

Mira Nair wasn`t sure whether ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, on Islamic fundamentalism with a Pakistani protagonist, would get released in India.

Mumbai: Filmmaker Mira Nair wasn`t sure whether ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, on Islamic fundamentalism with a Pakistani protagonist, would get released in India. But she has now found a distributor for the movie.
PVR Pictures, all set to release Dibakar Banerjee`s political thriller ‘Shanghai’, has acquired the Indian marketing rights of ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. "To get a release in my home country for this film was very vital. Now with PVR taking over I can breathe easy," said Nair. Hectic behind-the-scenes negotiations were on before the deal was clinched for one of the most keenly awaited films set in the Asian subcontinent in recent times. According to the sources, PVR has shown a keen interest in releasing a separate Indian version of ‘The Reluctant Fundamentlist’ where references to sensitive points on terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism would be toned down. However, Nair has put her foot down. "She insists that one homogenous version of `The Reluctant Fundamentalist` be released in India and the rest of the world," said a source. There are also talks of dubbing the film in Hindi for the Indian market, which Nair is opposed to. She aims to release the film, in India as well as abroad, by the end of the year. "I am in Mumbai throughout the month of June mixing my film. Inshallah we will release the film in India and the rest of the world by the end of the year," said Nair. IANS
