Ramdev's Patanjali atta noodles in trouble as FSSAI says no approval taken

New Delhi: Patanjali Ayurved's atta noodles, promoted by yoga guru Baba Ramdev, has landed in trouble after Food Safety and Regulatory Authority of India (FSSAI) said that no approval was given to the the FMCG venture, as per a daily newspaper report.

“Patanjali Atta Noodles has not got product approvals from us. The matter has been brought to our notice. We are pursuing it,” Ashish Bahuguna, FSSAI chairperson who also holds additional charge as its CEO, told The Indian Express.

FSSAI officials told the Indian Express that even though Patanjali Atta Noodles packets display an FSSAI licence number, it is yet to be ascertained as to how the company procured licence despite the fact that no approval was given.

Patanjali atta noodles was launched on Monday to take on Nestle's Maggi which has returned to the Indian market after a 5-month ban.

Patanjali has priced its 'Atta Noodles' of 70 gram pack at Rs 15, claiming it to be cheaper from competitors.

The venture plans to set up six manufacturing plants for 'Patanjali Atta Noodles' to add to the existing unit based in Haridwar as looks to cater to more states.
