A coffee table book on the making of `Paan Singh Tomar`

Mumbai: `Pan Singh Tomar`, a real life story which was turned into Bollywood hit last year, will now find a place in drawing rooms as makers of the movie plan to bring out a coffee table book comprising rare and real pictures of the athlete-turned-dacoit.

UTV pictures have roped in author Priyanka Jain to write the coffee table book with both director Tigmanshu Dhulia and actor Irrfan Khan backing the project. Dhulia directed the movie on athlete( who represented India at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan) turned-army man-turned-dacoit. Irrfan, who played Tomar in the movie, said, "Thousands of stories live and die every day in India, unnoticed. And these stories are complex, fascinating, moving, heart wrenching and engaging. I feel they should be brought to light in whatever form possible." The actor hoped that the book will add to the film experience. "Book on Paan Singh is not a substitute for the film PST, it`s another experience including all the other details which the film could not include. I feel the book will add to the experience of the film Paan Singh Tomar," said Irrfan. The book will capture the journey of how Tomar`s story was turned into a cinematic experience besides giving readers a glimpse of the real and reel life of Tomar with some never seen before pictures depicting his life. "The story of Paan Singh Tomar was so captivating that both UTV and I believed that it needed to be told so much so that as a rare case UTV even funded the research for this film. The story of the making of the film Paan Singh Tomar, I believe, is equally compelling," Dhulia added. Managing Director of UTV, Siddharth Roy Kapur said, "It is very important for filmmakers and studios to archive stories around iconic movies which have the ability to inspire future generations. To see the film alive in the form of a book is a way to share the experience of `Paan Singh Tomar` with all those who were touched by the movie." PTI
