Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap`s expertise lies in making different kind of cinema and he candidly admits that if he is given a task to make a film like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, he won`t be able to do it.
"I can`t make a `Rowdy Rathore`. If I make a `Rowdy Rathore`, it will be a flop. It has to be made with a conviction. Prabhu Deva had a conviction. He believes in what he is doing. You need to believe in what you are doing. The day I start internally believing in a film, which is in the mainstream zone, I will make it," Kashyap told reporters Tuesday at a press meet.
Kashayp says that as a filmmaker he feels whenever a film makes money at the box office because that mone is used for the promotion or making of other films.
But at the same time he feels audiences should encourage a film like `Shanghai` too.
"I am sad about people not watching `Shanghai`, but I will not be sad about any film making money. UTV is making money out of `Rowdy Rathore` and they will spend that money to promote my film `Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana`," he said.
"Today Viacom 18 is spending money on `Gangs of Wasseypur` because they have earned enough money from `Kahaani`. So I am not sad about any film making money, but yes it does make mefeel rethink when `Shangahi` does not do the way I hope it would," he added.
Dibakar Banerjee`s `Shanghai` is a serious film that talks about problems in the country and it opened to rave reviews, but the box office response has not been so overwhelming.
"I sat down with Dibakar a day before and he said this will be the scenario. I was hopeful and I am always an optimist. `Paan Singh Tomar` turned around and did something which I am really happy about. `Shanghai` did not and I am still hoping. I don`t think that I will be ever sad about `Rowdy Rathore` making money," he said.
Meanwhile, part one of Kashyap`s crime thriller `Gangs of Wasseypur` is ready to release June 22.
