Costliest divorce ever! Mel Gibson pays £250m to ex-wife Robyn

London: Mel Gibson has been forced to pay half of his 500-million-pound fortune to former wife Robyn as part of their divorce settlement.

The couple had not signed any pre-nuptial agreement prior to their marriage. Robyn will also be picking up 50 percent of the pension benefits that the 56-year-old actor built up during their 31-year marriage. Details of their settlement were made public, nine months after the couple divorced. The payout has easily eclipsed the previous celebrity record of 94 million pounds that singer Neil Diamond paid to ex-wife Marcia Murphey, and the 74 million pounds that Melissa Mathison reportedly received from Harrison Ford. Gibson and Robyn together owned properties in the US, Australia, Costa Rica and a 10-million-pound private island in Fiji. According to reports, his former wife also gets half of his film rights. Divorce papers show that, along with Gibson’s Screen Actors Guild pension, she is also entitled to a split of his Directors Guild of America pension and half the benefits that he accumulated through their production company, Icon. The ‘Lethal Weapon’ star split from his wife, a dental nurse, who he had met while they were still living in Australia, following his infamous arrest in Malibu for drink driving in 2006. Three years later Robyn filed for divorce after Gibson announced that he was having a baby with his Russian mistress, Oksana Grigorieva. ANI
