Mumbai: For Indie Rock band Agnee, there just couldn’t have been a better way than to perform live in a concert, for the first time, for their fraternity friends and fans to celebrate their foray into Bollywood as music directors. Having gotten a record 3 nominations for GIMA awards in the Best Rock/Pop Single category this year as well as composing the theme song for ‘The Avengers’, the band really does not need any introduction. But all said and done, the band still believes nothing beats the craze of performing on-stage live.
The stage was set on fire at ‘Blue Frog’ with a two hour scintillating performance by the band. The concert titled—‘Agnee in Films’, had the band perform on some of their all time hits like ‘Sadho re’, ‘Aahatein’ and theme songs from MTV shows along with a few scores that they created as music directors from the upcoming movies ‘Aalaap’ and Punjabi movie, ‘Sarsa’. The band also covered “Yaariyan”, the smash hit that the band’s lead vocalist, Mohan, has sung in ‘Cocktail’- the movie featuring Saif Ali Khan, Diana Penty and Deepika Padukone with music by Pritam.
Apart from a lot of fans, there were some well known faces like Abbas Tyrewala, Aditi Singh Sharma, Singer Angaraag Papon, Murli Sharma, Meiyang Chang, Neeti Mohan, Raghu Ram and Rajiv. The gig had its share of beauty as well with Gul Panag, the lead actress of ‘Sarsa’, gracing the event and supporting Agnee, Mrinalini Sharma (of ‘Aawaraapan’ and ‘Jodi Breakers’ fame), Sugandha Ram (from ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’), and Pakhi Tyrewala (from ‘Jhootha hi Sahi’). Be it fans or celebrities, everyone was seen having a great time singing along, whistling for performances, and asking for encores. Agnee happily obliged them each time.
Speaking about Agnee’s first live concert post becoming music directors, Mohan, lead vocalist, said, “This is the best time to be in music. We’ve been lucky throughout our career, with a huge mainstream release on debut with Sony BMG, then getting the opportunity to compose for many reality shows like ‘Splitsvilla’ and ‘Roadies’, and now the big daddy, Bollywood. Indian films are now no longer closed in their music sensibilities and directors and producers are more than willing to experiment with new sounds, and audiences in India have accepted this change with open arms. We’ve never solicited business, be it live shows or films, and we’re just lucky and happy that producers and directors have come to us to compose for them. We hope we do more than justice to each project, everytime. Today’s performance was to celebrate one more arena where our songs can now be showcased and we’re so happy we were joined by all partners, be it singers, musicians, lyricists or producers directors and actors.”
Koco, lead guitarist added, “We wanted our fans and friends to have a good time with us today and hence dedicate ‘Agnee in Films’ to the people present here who have always supported us. ‘Agnee in Films’ is also a reminder that though we have turned music directors, we have most fun performing onstage for our fans and ourselves. Aalaap and Sarsa are great movies which have taken us to the next step and we are happy to be associated with these movies.”
