New Delhi: Sahara chief Subrata Roy has already spent more than two years in jail in the wake of non payment of dues and bail amount fixed by the court.

In a breather to beleagured Roy, the Supreme Court on Wednesday extended his parole till July 11 to enable him to deposit Rs 200 crore with market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

However, the bench, hearing Roy's plea, was stunned at the fresh list of properties provided in the sealed cover.

SC was clueless as to why did the Sahara chief languish in jail despite the fact that value of his properties was far more than his liability.

"Why person with this kind of fortune shall be hesitant to make payment," the bench asked.

This, only to be replied by senior advocates Kapil Sibal Sibal on behalf of Roy, "What is your fear? I will run away. I am going to give an undertaking that I will get Rs 500 crore in two months".

Seeking extension of interim parole for Roy till August 4, Sibal said his client was ready to give an undertaking that he would pay a substantial amount of money in a span of 180 days.

"We have already suffered a lot. We have learnt the lesson. We have done everything we could do. We have even authorised SEBI to sell our properties at circle rates. Give us an opportunity. Give me a chance, I will arrange the money once I come out," Sibal said.
