London: Lady Gaga has revealed that her desire to have a “skinny ballerina body” made her bulimic as a teenager. The ‘Bad Romance’ hitmaker said that she spent most of her time in high school throwing up because she was unhappy with her shape. Even now as one of the world’s most successful recording stars, the 25-year-old singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, admits that weight is still a struggle.
“I used to throw up all the time in high school. So I’m not that confident,” a leading daily has quoted her as saying during a Young Women’s conference hosted at a school by Maria Shriver in Los Angeles.
“I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night. I used to come home and say, ‘Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin.’ And he’d say, ‘Eat your spaghetti.’ It’s really hard, But … you’ve got to talk to somebody about it,” she said.
Lady Gaga said her voice was suffering because of the bulimia so she managed to stop herself.
“It made my voice bad, so I had to stop. The acid on your vocal chords - it’s very bad,” she added.
