New Delhi: Online retailer Snapdeal will not renew its contract with bollywood actor Aamir Khan as brand ambassador for the second term, a financial daily has reported.
As per the Economic Times report, Aamir had signed a one-year endorsement deal with Snapdeal that ends this month. However, the company is in no mood to renew the contract further, the ET quoting sources said.
It may be recalled that Khan was at the centre of a raging debate after he expressed "alarm and despondency" over the rise in incidents of intolerance in the country.
While hashtags like #Appwapsi and #SayNoToSnapDeal were trending, Snapdeal was downgraded in Google Playstore by few notches.
Many netizens, enraged by super star Aamir Khan's views on rising intolerance in India, vented their frustration on social networks and deleted e-commerce app to show protest against Snapdeal.
Snapdeal distanced itself from the remark saying the comments made by the actor were "in his personal capacity" and it was in no way connected with them.
"Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India," Snapdeal said in a statement.
It may also be recalled that Khan was recently dropped as the mascot of 'Incredible India' campaign.
