Rani Mukherjee not interested in doing movies with dark themes

Rani Mukherjee, who has teamed up with director Anurag Kashyap for his home production venture `Aiyyaa`, said that she is not interested in doing movies with dark themes.

Mumbai: Actress Rani Mukherjee, who has teamed up with director Anurag Kashyap for his home production venture `Aiyyaa`, said here today that she is not interested in doing movies with dark themes.
"When Anurag came to me, I told him I don`t want to do movies with dark themes. I told him that I wish to do movies with happy endings. I was surprised when he told me that he is offering me such a movie," Rani told reporters here, at an event held to promote the Marathi movie `Aiyyaa`, produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18, starring Rani Mukherjee and Kerala-based actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. "This film is mad, funny, quirky and whacky. I wanted to do something different with him. I have known since long time. I know Anurag`s quirky side. Since I had done dark themed movies like `No One Killed Jessica` and the yet to be released `Talaash`, I wanted to do something different. Hence I chose this movie," said Rani, who was was dressed like her character, in a yellow-green color nine-yard (nauvari) sari. In `Aiyyaa`, Rani plays the role of a Marathi girl falling in love with a Malayali boy, played by Prithviraj. For this Marathi film, Rani wanted to get her dialect and pronunciation right and she worked towards it. "My director Sachin Kundalkar wanted a Marathi flavour. So right from the costumes, the the dialogues to the dialect, to the pronounciation, everything is right. My director helped me with the Marathi dialect as I wanted to get it right," she said. Incidentally, `Aiyyaa` also happens to be Prithviraj`s debut in Bollywood and Rani is all praise for the Kerala-based actor. "Prithvi is awesome. He is a wonderful person. He is really handsome and lovely to work with. Now I know why he is such a huge star. He is a very special actor," she said. The film directed by Sachin Kundalkar releases on October 12. PTI
