New Delhi: Telecom regulator Trai on Friday asked incumbent telcos to ensure that requisite number of point of interconnection is being given to Reliance Jio.
Trai had called a meeting with telecom operators today to resolve the ongoing dispute involving Jio and incumbent telecom operators such as Airtel, Vodafone and Idea over inter-connecting points.
Industry body COAI - the association of telecom operators - had written to the Prime Minister's Office stating that incumbents are "not obliged to entertain inter-connect requests" that are "anti-competitive". It has sought PMO's intervention on the issue to "restore fair competition".
COAI submitted that incumbent operators are in no position by way of network or financial resources to terminate volumes of traffic that are "markedly asymmetric".
Trai has said that interconnect a bilaterlal issue and not a policy matter, adding that COAI should not interfere in this matter.
