Mumbai: Three candidates were interviewed for the post of a managing director of the country's largest lender State Bank of India, sources said.

The interview was conducted by the Bank Board Bureau here on June 25.

The interviews were held to replace VG Kannan, who is looks after associates and subsidiaries at the bank and retires on June 30.

Among three candidates who appeared for the interview, Dinesh Khara is managing director and chief executive of SBI Mutual Fund.

Other candidates are Varsha Purandare, MD and CEO of SBI Caps and M S Sastry chief risk officer.

As per the norms, the candidate appearing for the interview of SBI MD must have completed three years as either DMD or chief general manager (CGM) and he/she must have the residual service of at least two years.

The other three serving MDs at SBI include Rajnish Kumar (national banking group), B Sriram (corporate banking group) and PK Gupta (compliance and risk.

Meanwhile, 16 general managers from various other public sector banks were also interviewed by the Bureau on June 25 as third round of interview for filling up vacant executive directors' posts at various PSBs.

Prior to it, two rounds of such interviews have already taken place on June 16 and June 17, sources said.

So far, a total of 49 candidates have appeared for the post of 16 EDs at PSBs.

Interviews for the selection of managing director and chief executive for three public sector banks have already taken place the result of which was yet to be out.
