The government is committed to provide all necessary support to make India`s manufacturing sector globally competitive and a wide array of smart technologies needs to be adopted for the purpose, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Anant Geete said on Friday.

New Delhi: The government is committed to provide all necessary support to make India`s manufacturing sector globally competitive and a wide array of smart technologies needs to be adopted for the purpose, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Anant Geete said on Friday.

`Make in India` campaign is the first step in this direction and assured that going forward the results of many more steps taken by the government in various areas would be clearly visible, he said at an event organised by industry chamber CII. 

He also apprised the gathering of the various steps taken by his ministry such as addressing the problems of central public sector enterprises, formulation of the 1st draft on National Capital Goods policy and encouragement of manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles to support the manufacturing growth agenda of the country.

Industrial Policy and Promotion Secretary Amitabh Kant said that Indian manufacturing is on the cusp of a transformation and leveraging advantages of Industry 4.0 will support the faster growth of an efficient and cost competitive manufacturing sector.

He stressed on the urgent need for skill transformation to seize this opportunity by creating the relevant technology-driven skill base to drive this revolution. For this, the technology usage in colleges and schools needs to be aligned to workplace skills requirements, he said.

Kant urged the industry, academia and R&D institutions to come together and create a multi-disciplinary curriculum and ecosystem to support this transformation.
