Demi Moore’s breakdown is not just about Ashton Kutcher, say her pals

New York: Demi Moore’s public divorce from Ashton Kutcher was not the only reason for her meltdown early last week, her friends have claimed.

According to the actress’ friends, longstanding issues with fame and the spotlight led to the 49-year-old’s health scare. “This is not just about Ashton,” the New York Daily News quoted a close friend of the actress as telling E! News. “I’m sure Ashton would like to think it’s all about him. “It’s really more about the toll it takes on any ambitious woman in this town,” the friend said. The source said that the ‘Indecent proposal’ star has long had issues with the demands of the spotlight, namely “constantly having to prove you’re not just a pretty face but a talented actor, as well. Constantly having to prove you’re a good mother, not just a celebutante around town who goes to parties instead of looking after her family.” “Having to stay sober in a town that’s so not,” the source said. Moore suffered an apparent overdose and convulsions on Monday night brought about by a combination of drugs that have yet to be identified by investigators. She was rushed to the hospital shortly thereafter. “She can’t speak ... she’s convulsing ... we’re holding her down,” a friend said in the disturbing 911 call. The friend told the emergency operator that the actress had “smoked something” similar to incense before the reaction. Kutcher, meanwhile, was in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the time of his soon-to-be ex-wife’s health crisis, and was seemingly having a good time attending shows for the city``s fashion week and posing for photos with fans. Still, Moore’s friends are insistent that the ‘Margin Call’ actress is in good spirits after entering rehab for “exhaustion” following her trip to the hospital. “I just saw her and she’s doing great,” Patty Jenkins, her director friend, said. “I think she’s doing much better than it’s made out to be. “Demi is awesome and so strong. I also hate when people make it a bigger drama than what is going on. She’s great,” Jenkins said. In initial reports about Moore``s scary situation, news outlets reported that the actress had been using whip-its and possibly Spice, a synthetic cannabis drug, at the time. According to TMZ, however, the L.A. City Attorney called for all references to whip-its to be wiped from the released 911 tapes, citing invasion of privacy. Authorities have yet to confirm what drugs may have caused Moore``s seizure-like reaction. However, Moore``s pals are convinced that her tough spirit will help her weather even this turbulent storm. “Demi`s had a fight in her for many years before Ashton ever came along,” the first source added.
