New Delhi: How would you react if  the train you are sitting in takes you through an underwater journey? You may get shaky or amazed, but it is true that India's first bullet train running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad would be taking the passengers through the underwater route.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency, who is funding the project, revealed that 13 miles of the 315-mile route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will pass from Thane creek towards Virar, via a submerged corridor.

The bullet train will be at a maximum speed of 217 mph, and the whole trip is expected to take about two hours, while the fastest running train between the two cities right now is the Duronto Express, which takes seven hours.

The project is expected to begin by the end of 2018, and is is similar to the shinkansen bullet trains running from Tokyo to Hakodate, which makes use of the undersea Seikan Tunnel.
