London: British actor Jude Law is calling for global peace by urging fans to join a campaign calling for a reduction in violence.
The 39-year-old star wants people around the world to make history by joining demonstrations on Peace Day: a day of Global Truce on 21 September.
On Peace Day in 2008, the United Nations had announced a 70 per cent decrease in violent incidents in Afghanistan, and the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ star is hoping that the upcoming celebration will see history’s largest ever reduction.
“I’ve been working with Peace One Day for years, travelling into Afghanistan with Jeremy Gilley, the founder, seeing first-hand how this day really saves lives,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
“For Peace Day 2012, Peace One Day is calling for and working towards a day of ceasefire and non-violence - the Global Truce 2012 campaign.
“We really want it to work to bring together the largest ever gathering of individuals in the name of peace.
“Mass participation on Peace Day 2012 will give Peace One Day the leverage it needs to get others involved, particularly the member states of the United Nations. If they see people of our world coming together then they’ll act themselves,” he added.
