Mumbai: While the whole of B-town assembled to wish Esha Deol on her wedding yesterday, absence of her half-brothers Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol from the venue shocked many. Sources claimed that Bobby couldn’t attend the ceremony as he was shooting abroad and Sunny missed the wedding as he had prior work commitments.
Esha Deol got married to diamond merchant Bharat Takhtani in a traditional South Indian ceremony at Isckon temple in Juhu area of Mumbai. The event saw an eclectic mix of celebs, socialites, industrialists and close friends with of course Hema Malini and Dharmendra attending and greeting each of the guests.
It was earlier reported that Dharmendra went missing from the pictures of Esha’s sangeet ceremony. There were rumours that he had refused to be photographed. There were also reports that it may have had something to do with the fact that he had been away in the US for two months, presumably to address health concerns.
But later it was known that the matinee idol was very much there the fact of which was established by a snapshot with the actor’s 1000-watt smile intact. The actor said, "I was very much there. But I avoided the cameras as far as possible. It was an evening meant for the kids. I decided to take a backseat." Hema Malini seconded him saying, "Dharam was there. But he stayed away from the cameras."
Dharmendra`s private life has been distinctly unorthodox ever since he married Hema Malini in 1980. At the time of marriage Sunny and Bobby were over 20. Dharmendra had to convert to Islam to marry Hema. At the same time, Dharmendra never divorced his first wife and has maintained two separate families ever since.
But despite Dharmendra’s two families, Sunny and Bobby have always been known to be very fond of their half sisters Esha and Ahana. Sunny and Bobby were even sighted at Esha’s engagement, but the two couldn’t make it to the wedding. It’s expected that both the brothers will attend the grand reception being held Sunday evening.
