London:`Jason Bourne` star Matt Damon revealed that producers were too worried with his latest flick `Behind the Candelabra` of being just too gay.
Industry veteran Michael Douglas depicts the life of pianist Liberace and the secret affair he had with young Scott Thorson, played by 42-year-old Damon, based on Thorson`s memoir of same name, reported Contactmusic.
"Steven says that studios said openly to him that it was just too gay.
"It`s almost impossible to find a big movie that`s interesting, but none of the decisions at that level are personal. Too often they`re not rewarded for their courage, so, as a result, their default setting is to hesitate." he said.
Director Steven Soderbergh, who took a risque with a rendition of a biopic of homosexual love, declared this to be his last movie and complimented the professionalism of the actors admitting that audiences might struggle to see their stars depicting such scenes.
"Michael, he was just fearless. They both are. The movie just doesn`t work if they don`t both literally join hands and jump off the cliff.
"It`s intimate stuff, even if it was a guy and a girl. But for a lot of people it`ll be hard to see Jason Bourne on top of Gordon Gekko."
