Mumbai: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and father of Riteish Deshmukh, Vilasrao Deshmukh is critical as he is suffering from serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure. He is currently under observation and is admitted to the Global Hospital in Chennai.
Son Riteish has proposed to donate a part of his liver to his ailing father.
Following Riteish’s readiness, the doctors are expected to conduct certain tests to examine whether tissues of the father and son match or not. According to transplant rules, the doctors can conduct liver transplantation only after an authorised committee headed by the Tamil Nadu director of medical education gives permission.
A doctor from Global Hospital said, "We have not ruled out a cadaver transplant either. We will put him on the wait-list. But that is only after he stabilises."
The 67-year-old, Vilasrao’s condition worsened yesterday and he was was taken to the Chennai hospital by a special flight from Mumbai.
His health condition deteriorated and doctors on Tuesday said, "Deshmukh is on life support. His condition is critical as he is suffering from a serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure."
Earlier, a doctor in Mumbai was quoted as saying, "At Breach Candy (Mumbai hospital where Deshmukh was earlier admitted), he was on dialysis for three days. There was no improvement in his condition and ultimately he was put on life support system."
"Our information is that Deshmukh had gone abroad for check-up on two to three occasions and there had been a marked improvement in his condition," added the doctor.
