The ET talked to aviation secretary RN Choubey as to how the government will fulfill the dreams of affordable flying.

Here are some key points that he made.

1. The government is contemplating at least three subsidised flights a week at underserved airports.

2. Airlines providing regional flights will have to connect underserved airports with:

a. Minimum three flights a week

b. Maximum seven flights a week

3. Flights beyond that will not fetch any subsidy.

4. All seats in the flight will not be subsidised.

5. Smaller aircraft with 13 seats will have nine seats under subsidy.

6. 80 seater aircraft will have 40 seats under subsidy

7. Airline operating regional flights will be allowed to sell the remaining seats at market price.

8. Government plans to connect about 30 airports immediately provided such airports have adequate infrastructure but no flights at present.
