New Delhi: The government is soon going to introduce transparent liquefied natural gas (LPG) cylinders to keep a tab on gas theft.
As per a report in the Economic Times, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has given his consent for the scheme and is in talks with fuel retailing corporations Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum for an early roll out.
What will be the price?
Such transparent cylinder will come at anything between Rs 2,500-3,000, the ET report says.
When will it be rolled out?
If everything goes well then the scheme will be rolled out as soon as March 2016. The first stock would be imported and made in use while the steel ones will be used in the rural areas.
What are the pros and cons?
There is a debate on the price of the transparent cylinders. ET report says, while some in the ministry is in favour of the high-priced cylinders, some say that it might discourage the customers. Those in favour believe that customers would not mind paying extra to ensure quality product.
