Whosoever interest Subramanian Swamy is taking care of, but government was aware of Arwind Subramanian's stance on key issues like IPR before appointing him as Chief Economic Advisor. Government had taken a " considered view" when it appointed the former IMF economist as CEA, said a government official on Wednesday.
Arwind Subramanian had called for putting an end to unabashed patenting by Indian companies by tweaking existing drugs of global companies and projecting them as innovations.
Before his appointment as CEA in 2014, Arwind Subramanian was a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and at the Center for Global Development, and called for changes within the intellectual property protection laws in India and urged the US to consider initiating WTO disputes against India.
