Mumbai: Abhijeet Sawant, who got recognition after winning a singing reality show, is ready with his new album ‘Farida’, based on Sufism. The singer is confident it would appeal to listeners of all age groups.
"We thought of doing Sufi. It shouldn`t be very classical because then we wouldn`t be able to attract young listeners. But at the same time it shouldn`t repel real music lovers. Sufi is a nice bridge between the two," the 31-year-old said here Tuesday at the launch of the album.
"Most of the songs in `Farida` are by old time Sufi fakirs and they reflect their thoughts," added the singer, who won the first season of reality show ‘Indian Idol’.
The album is a result of two years of hard work.
"We spent almost two years on this album. `Farida` was the first song, we tried to do something different everyday and that took two years. Now it is before the audience, let`s see what happens," Abhijeet said.
He has also sung songs like "Mar jaavan mit jaavan" ("Aashiq Banaya Aapne"), "Bechain sapne" ("Chittagong") with Mahalaxmi Iyer.
