Kolkata: Seeking inspiration from the popular bun maska of Mumbai, ace designer Nida Mahmood stole the show on day one of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour here as models dazzled the ramp with LED-lit flowers on their heads.
Her collection `Bombay Bun Maska` was inspired by the popular snack from Mumbai and also referred to the free-spirited people who are non-pretentious and believe in creating a style on their own.
Boho chic was at its best with the very structured garments, also including a few fluid ones. What added some exciting touches to the collection were the LED lights on the flowers on the heads of the models.
Bengali beauty Raima Sen, who walked the ramp for Nida, admitted she was nervous.
"Even acting is nerve-wracking for me but this is scarier," she told reporters.
Known for her quirky designs and prints and the very unconventional silhouettes for women, this time Delhi-based Nida brought in a collection even for men.
Playing with colours, the collection, meant for the strongly-opinionated, came across as bold and youthful.
Raghavendra Rathore, best known for his designs inspired by Indian heritage, came up with his newly-launched diffusion line `Club Jodhpur` and `Club J`.
Celebrating the heritage and tradition with aplomb, the ethnic wear collection included Jodhpur jackets, achkans, kurtas, churidars and Nehru jackets along with long embroidered waistcoats.
Keeping it different from his high end line, `Club J` and `Club Jodhpur` are aimed at the mainstream market with a look that works for both western and ethnic buyers.
Rich textiles like brocade have been used to accentuate each ensemble and the traditional dhoti has become a recreated novelty.
A lot of importance is paid to the different fabrics and the subtle detailing which Raghavendra is known for.
Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil presented their cocktail couture line in their signature style which is contemporary, romantic and independent.
With the theme of a destination wedding, their garments draped in imported nets, brocades, and silks exude the idea of modest luxury carried over into full-length ensembles.
The contours of the garments by the designers create new trendsetting silhouettes in luxurious laces to recreate the beauty of a festive carnival.
For designer Asmita Marwa, her `La Vie En Rose` line is the perfect resort holiday wear for men and women. It is a collection inspired by the 60s and 70s Woodstock era of fashion when freedom, peace and music expression defined the lives of people.
Asmita had fairly structured silhouettes but there was a lot of fluidity in the cropped pants, tunics, shirts and she has added a few feathers for collars that create the hippy chic era look.
