Washington: Katie Holmes’ decision to fight for sole custody of daughter Suri after filing for divorce from Tom Cruise has unexpected implications, a divorce attorney has claimed.
Vikki Ziegler said this after a source confirmed that the 33-year-old actress is indeed pursuing sole custody of the estranged couple’s only child together.
“This is a very aggressive move on Katie’s part. Standard [filing] is joint legal [custody] with Katie as the parent of primary residence,” Us magazine quoted Ziegler as saying.
“Usually sole custody is requested when a person either wants to hurt the other parent or has evidence of a parent being unfit,” he said.
Holmes’ attorney broke the news on Friday afternoon that she and Cruise are divorcing.
Later that day, Cruise’s rep issued his own statement hinting that Holmes was the one who had taken the initiative with their split.
