London: Internationally renowned filmmaker Wong Kar-wai was honoured as Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters, France`s highest cultural honour in celebration of his lengthy career.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius presented the honour to the 54-year-old filmmaker at a ceremony in Hong Kong Sunday.
On receiving the honour Kar-Wai said the award is "in a way, a tribute to Hong Kong cinema", and that France is cinema`s "spirit home", reports contactmusic.com.
The other recipients of the award include Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Mrinal Sen and David Bowie.
