London: Shobna Gulati might play husband-grabbing Sunita in ‘Coronation Street,’ but in real life, the actress admits that she struggles to net a man.
The soap star reckons men get put off by her fame, or only date her because she’s on TV. But Gulati, 46, said that she believes in love and hopes her prince will one day sweep her off her feet.
“I don’t go for the right men, that’s my problem. I’m just rubbish,” a leading daily has quoted her as saying.
“I haven’t been in love yet. I’ve told people I loved them and I must have in a way, but I’ve never really been in love. But I still believe in my handsome prince. I believe there’s a point when you meet somebody and it goes ‘bam’,” she said.
That’s not to say she’s short on male attention though.
“I do get chatted up,” she said.
“My friend laughs that when we are out and she goes to the toilet she comes back and there’s another lad at the table. Because I look so young I do attract the younger blokes,” she added.
Despite her fab figure, the sexy new style that came with Sunita’s transformation did pose a problem for the actress.
“I’m not confident in real life, so it’s been quite a struggle,” she said.
“Wearing the tight-fitting dresses, I am quite embarrassed and sometimes I bang my head against the Rovers bar and wonder what I’m doing. But I think I have a new-found confidence from it,” she said.
