New Delhi: In what could render thousands of ATM users craving for cash after late evening, the government has decided to come up with new rules for replenishing ATMs with cash, a newspaper report said.
As per a report in the Economic Times, the government might come up with a proposal to discontinue re-stocking cash at ATMs after 8 pm.
The ET said that the move is aimed at “risk mitigation” for “secured cash movement” of cash.
Other points in the guidelines also include that the cash vans “must not carry more than Rs 5 crore” per trip and in each vans two armed guards and driver must be trained to "disengage with the situation and drive vehicle to safety" in case of an attack, the ET further reported.
The government proposal further states that cash replenishment agencies must collect it from the bank in the first half of the in urban centers across while for rural areas the deadline has been set at 5 PM. It is further early in Naxal-affected districts with the government deciding the deadline to be 3PM.
