New Delhi: After reports of India's leading lender State Bank of India grappling with possible debit card security breach came to light, a news daily has reported that over 30 lakh debit cards could be exposed to security risk.

SBI yesterday said that it has blocked over 6 lakh debit cards of its customers following a suspected security breach adding that it will issue fresh cards to them.

Meanwhile, a Times of India on Thursday reported that close to 30 lakh debit cards used in ATMs have been exposed to malware at the back end.

According to banking circles, several other banks have also experienced similar problems as a few ATMs have been hit by a malware which has a high potential to compromise customers data.

Official figures indicate that SBI has over 20 crore active debit cards, besides another 4.75 crore of its associate banks.

Some private banks are conducting security review by experts of its ATM networks to pre-empt any type of breaches.
