Mumbai: The rupee was trading higher by 7 paise at 66.62 against the US dollar in early trade on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.
Forex dealers said a strong opening in domestic equity markets too supported the rupee, but dollar's strength against other currencies overseas on upbeat US jobs report capped gains.
The rupee had shed 4 paise to close at a one-week low of 66.69 per dollar on Friday's trade after touching more than two-year low of 67.01 during intra-day.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered by 147.42 points or 0.55 per cent to 25,785.53 in early trade.
