Punjab enacts law to save heritage buildings

Punjab has asked all its departments to seek permission from the cultural affairs department before renovating any government building that was constructed before 1947, an official said Wednesday.

Chandigarh: Punjab has asked all its departments to seek permission from the cultural affairs department before renovating any government building that was constructed before 1947, an official said Wednesday.
"A communique (has been) issued to all the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and sub-divisional magistrates. They have been directed to obtain a no objection certificate (NOC) before demolition, alteration and reuse of all the government buildings built before 1947," the spokesman said. He said the department would examine the style and material that would be used for alteration, repair, reconstruction and re-alteration of any heritage building. The concerned department, carrying out alterations or renovation, would bear the cost of the technical advice, he added. IANS
