'I felt pretty sleepy' Prof. Angus Deaton is said to have joked when he was asked about his feelings on winning the Nobel Prize in Economics, The Guardian reports.

Prof. Angus Deaton, 69, is a well known micro-economist and was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Economics on Monday for his study in the field of consumption, poverty and welfare.

Of his study and contribution to the field, he Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in its citation, “By linking detailed individual choices and aggregate outcomes, his research has helped transform the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics and development economics.”

Here are few things to know more about the Nobel Prize winner in Economics.

  • Prof. Angus Deaton is currently the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of Economics and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Economics Department at Princeton University.
  • He hold dual citizenship – United States and Britain. In Britain he taught at Cambridge University and the University of Bristol.
  • He is a corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the Econometric Society and. In 1978, he became the first recipient of the Society's Frisch Medal.
  • Prof. Deaton was also President of the American Economic Association in 2009.
  • In 2012, he was awarded the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award. In April 2014 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society.
  • On April 28, 2015, Prof. Deaton was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
  • His main current research areas are in health, wellbeing, and economic development.
