London: Adele has revealed that fat jokes about her doing the rounds on the internet have hurt her and she is going through a lot of distress.
Netizens have been poking fun at the 23-year-old singer’s curvaceous figure since her six Grammy haul at Los Angeles last week.
“Adele is still at the top of the charts because no one can move her!” the Daily Star quoted one mean quip as saying.
The ‘Rolling in the Deep’ star, who has sold more than 20million records worldwide, is also expected to clean up at the BRIT Awards in London on Tuesday.
She has been nominated for best female, best single and best album categories.
But her success has not stopped online bullies from posting comments about her appearance on social networking sites, blogs and forums.
Other cruel taunts read: “If I have 5 pies in one hand and six pies in the other hand what have I got? Two more trips to Adele’s table in my restaurant to complete her order.
“Adele says she’s been hurt by fat jokes about her and is going through a lot of pain. Yeah, probably Pain au Chocolat.”
“Adele: ‘The Brit School saved me from teen pregnancy.’ No, I’m pretty sure being fat and ginger saved you from teen pregnancy.”
The attacks have come in the wake of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, 78, calling her “a little too fat”.
