New Delhi, Sept 02: Admitting the "mistake" in aligning with BJP in Uttar Pradesh, a senior BSP leader today alleged that the Saffon Party was making "threatening calls" to former Chief Minister Mayawati. "For the past one week BJP has been making threatening calls to our leader Mayawati and is trying to prove that CBI will do whatever BJP wants. BJP wants to convey that if she does not concede to its demands, it can tarnish her image using the CBI," Rashid Alvi, MP, said. He said BJP wanted to send a message that it could harm Mayawati politically if she did not agree to what it said. Asserting that BSP was not afraid of anybody, Alvi said that had it been so, BSP would not have broken the alliance.

The BSP leader said BJP was trying to "trap" Mayawati as it has realised that it will lose assembly elections in four states where it thought of winning by forging an alliance with BSP.
Asked if BSP was looking forward for an alliance with Congress after parting ways with BJP, Alvi said, "We are not looking towards congress for forging any alliance. Except for one assembly election, BSP has not had any tie-up with Congress. Our stand is if an offer comes from any secular party, we can consider it".
