Mumbai: Director Sachin Kundalkar has managed to can a lot of scenes for his upcoming film ‘Aiyyaa’ inside Sir J.J. School of Arts, one of the oldest art institutions in the city.
In the movie, the male protagonist Suraj, played by southern actor Prithviraj, is a painting student. To bring more reality to the film, several parts of the film were shot in the institute, which was set up in Mumbai in 1857.
In 2010, the state government had banned shooting inside the prestigious institution after four 125 years old sculptures were severely damaged during a film shoot, but the makers of ‘Aiyyaa’ managed to get the permission from the school trustees.
The film is about a Marathi girl, Meenakshi Deshapande (Rani Mukerji) whose parents are trying to get her married and she falls in love with Suraj. Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18, it is expected to hit theatres Oct 12.
